Agriturismo Podere San Michele

The photos gave a misleading impression, and the room I got was different from the one I booked and worse. Very low strategy.

The setting in the green Salento countryside is stunning. With such a short menu, just four first courses and three desserts, for example, I expected the dishes to be delicious. The starter of burrata, tomatoes, and basil really was exquisite. But the cotoletta con patatine, described as breaded cutlet with chips, wasn’t a cutlet. It was a small slice of chicken breast, even though we were meant to share it between two. The chips tasted of fish, apparently because they’d been fried in the same oil. An experience I wouldn’t repeat.

The breakfast was a real highlight, with more than we expected, plenty of choice, and both sweet and savory options. The place is quiet and has a lovely outdoor area. The pool at sunset is a real bonus, and the rooms are a normal size with all the modern comforts.

A friend recommended this agriturismo, so seven of us went for dinner with the children. The place was very well kept, and even with small Alimini Lake just a few steps away, there were no mosquitoes at all. We tried several local appetizers, then orecchiette with turnip tops and fagottini. Everything was very good. The kids ordered straight away and were served quickly. Great service, the best dinner of our vacation in Salento. I recommend it.
