Brain Rooms & Suite

The room had a lot of dust, the building was still unfinished, with balconies under construction and scaffolding, and the internet code didn't work. The breakfast was included in the rate, but both of the listed bars or cafes were closed when I arrived. They offered no alternative, and after I asked for the 10 euros I paid for breakfast for three people to be refunded, nobody ever got back to me. I'm very disappointed with the service.

The location is right in the center, which is handy, though driving there can be a hassle with the narrow streets and all the one-way routes. The hosts were responsive and accommodating, and the service was very good. The rooms were especially nice for the price, and clean. All in all, a very good experience.

Pagani felt like real Italy to me, with local people rather than tourists and plenty of small, charming boutiques and shops. It's also a handy base, about 30 minutes from Salerno, Naples, and Pompeii, and an hour from the beautiful Amalfi Coast. As a Canadian, I appreciated having comforts from home, especially the comfy bed and big shower with strong pressure. The rooms have been newly renovated. I'd definitely stay again.

The good points were the bright room and its excellent view of Vesuvius. Breakfast at Martino bar was good too, and the manager, Enzo, was kind. The rest of our stay was deeply frustrating. We had booked four nights, checking in on 12/28/21 and out on 1/1/22, though the original booking had an incorrect checkout date of 6/1/22. We were put in room 602 for what was meant to be a nine-night stay. It was tiny, with a worn spring mattress that sagged and pushed into my back, so I slept badly. The modern, large bathroom had weak hot water in the shower, and the toilet clogged once before clearing after several tries. Greasy marks covered the walls, the leather headboard was cracked, and the safe didn't work. I complained by phone the next day. On day three they offered room 607, but it was just as small and much darker, with light coming only through a small high window, so it was worse than 602. We later found out that room 605 was also available from day three. It was much larger, clean, and had a decent latex mattress, clean walls, a working safe, a big terrace with a view, and a modern bathroom with normal hot water. The cleaning lady kindly let us quickly look at other rooms from outside, and they all seemed in good condition. I can't understand how the person managing the property could rent 602 in the state I described to a couple staying nine days. It should have been fixed before being offered. Maybe the manager is blind or hasn't visited in a while? The pandemic or so-called “smart working” is no excuse for managing the B&B remotely. There were only two hangers in the room, so they should add a few more. Only after I told an employee at B& B “Brain rooms & Suite” that I'd post a review online did they offer room 605. We accepted, but only for two nights because I'd already arranged decent accommodation elsewhere. The alternative should have been offered from the start.
