We spent 10 days here and loved it. Palaia is a lovely little town, and the people are so nice. The views from Casa Favilli are breathtaking, with the place set up on the mountain among olive groves. The owner of agriturismo Carbonaia is a wonderful, helpful host. I’d absolutely recommend staying here.

At the Pisa food & wine exhibition, we paid €20 for four €5 tastings of cured meats. Each came with two slices of salami and two pieces of bread, plus a piece of pancetta so hard like marble that none of the four of us touched it. When we asked, we were told, “No, no paper.” We didn’t get a receipt either, and had to go find a sandwich afterward.
