Eremo Celestiniano Madonna dell'Altare - Hostel

The forest around the hermitage was especially lovely, with the autumn colours on show, and the view from the lookout was beautiful. It's such a mystical spot, with near-total quiet and an almost unreal feeling in the air.

It was a shame the Path of Silence to the shelter Pietro chose was closed, so that's a reason to come back 🙏. Annamaria, our guide, shared a lot about Pietro da Morrone's life. The place feels both spiritual and mystical, and there's an extensive library.

Annamaria guided us through the monastery with real passion, sharing stories about the history of this beautiful hermitage. Brother Pietro had first stayed in the ravines below the present building when he began his monastic life. The historic site is fascinating, well preserved, and easy to reach by car, and staff can arrange tours.

Ilaria, the young local guide, was great and I'd definitely recommend her. I didn't expect to find a place where you can also stay overnight. It's a peaceful haven that helps you reconnect with nature and yourself. Don't miss it!
