The location is what makes this hotel: it’s a block from the Main Street, even if you might not realize it, with shops, pedestrians, restaurants, and a few small grocery stores nearby. There’s miles of exploring right outside. Still, I probably wouldn’t stay again without a really good discount. The rooms were dark and drab, with too few lights, very stiff beds, and even flatter, sadder pillows. The elevators were tiny, and the rooms felt stuffy because there was no airflow unless you opened the windows. In December, Sicily considers it the “cold” season, so the hotels switch off A/C and only provide heat. The weather was mild and pleasant, but opening a window was the only way to get air moving. Several of us complained about how stuffy it got at night. I asked the front desk for a fan, but got an empty stare. The bathroom layout was awkward too. If you’re tall, your knees could easily hit the glass shower door while sitting on the toilet. Breakfast is on the 5th floor, with plenty of food, mostly carbs and sweet items. Hot options can include scrambled eggs and ham, and there’s fresh-cut fruit. The seating area is spacious, though the main breakfast space can feel cramped where guests and staff share a narrower hall. Be patient, let staff work, and step aside. The location can’t be beat, but that’s about all I liked.

You can easily walk from here to the Cruise Center or into the Old Town. It’s a quiet, nice hotel, and my room was clean and spacious. At check-in, the receptionist was very friendly and spoke very good English, thank you for that. The other receptionist seemed arrogant when you didn’t belong at the hotel, which was really irritating. Breakfast was good. They had Americano coffee on the table, and the very nice service person immediately asked if I’d like a cappuccino or espresso instead. Thank you, and I’d love to return to your wonderful city. We had a wonderful, roomy room and enjoyed the breakfast, which offered a good mix of breakfast and lunch-style choices. The juices tasted a little different each day, so I thought they might be freshly squeezed. In the common areas, tasteful historical photos were arranged with clever angles that made us want to explore. The hotel is in a fantastic spot, handy for good restaurants and plenty of shopping, and the staff were helpful.

The hotel itself is beautiful, but it couldn’t make up for how unpleasant our stay was. The front desk staff were rude, the room was hot, and the beds were hard. I wouldn’t stay here again.

We were there with a tour group. The hotel is beautiful, but the lighting was awful. When I asked, they said it was for ambience. I couldn’t see well enough to get ready in my room, and needed my flashlight to find the elevator buttons. Several people in our group fell on the stairs, which were black marble with no lighting. I like ambience, but if you can’t see in the bathroom or on the stairs, I wouldn’t return.
