We ended up staying four days at Kalsa Home instead of six because Etna disrupted our plans. The owner is really nice, and the place was clean, on a nice street, with air conditioning that cooled the room well and hot water all the time. Just text Angelica if you need help with buses, the city, places to go or anything else. I recommend the apartment, and would send friends or family here if they visit Palermo. It's also very close to Palermo bus and train central station. Thanks, Angelica.

The owner is incredibly kind, though a bit of a dickhead. The apartment has been turned into a hostel with a kitchen, two bathrooms and five rooms. There's a staircase to the first floor, where there may be another room. The kitchen is fully equipped with a fridge, kettle, pans, glasses and cutlery. The bathrooms have toilets and showers, and they keep things like shower gel and deodorant on hand if you run out.

There's a local market at the far end of Via Milano. Parking takes some figuring out: it's a special zone, and leaving a car there from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM costs €5. You pay by texting a code from a scratch card to the number provided, and you can buy a card in a nearby square. The hostel is in a converted apartment in a tenement building with an elevator. It has five rooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen, though the kitchen feels small for the number of guests. The rooms have air conditioning, and clean bedding and towels are supplied. It can get noisy at night because the windows let sound through.
