Palazzo Sovrana

Meeting Paola, the owner, and Domenico, the chef, was a highlight. They made us feel like locals. I loved staying at Palazzo Sovrana and eating at Doba Restaurant. The room was clean and great, and the location was hard to beat. I’m glad I chose Palazzo Sovrana instead of a regular hotel.

The room facing the Opera House was fabulous, with high ceilings, big bright windows, a lovely bath, and great air conditioning. The hotel sits in a pedestrian zone, so it’s easy to walk around, though taxis can’t pull up to the door, as is routine in pedestrian areas. It’s a wonderful place to stay, comfortable, clean, and beautifully detailed. This boutique luxury hotel is high quality and in a great spot, with tons of casual restaurants in every direction. Highly recommended.

The staff were lovely from the first message to the end, and the apartments were spotless with great air conditioning. We had three apartments, each with two or three balconies per room, and the views over the square and Teatro Massimo were beautiful. Breakfast was easy too, with a café right outside the entrance. My parents appreciated the elevator, and we could walk to everything. There’s a taxi stand across the street, which got us to Mondello Beach in about 20 minutes for a beautiful beach day. It was our first time in Palermo, coming from NY, and we couldn’t have picked a better place. Highly recommend.

The breakfast was a real treat, with lots to choose from at a lovely café and a magical view. I also appreciated the excellent location facing Teatro Massimo, along with the friendly, professional staff. They explained parking clearly and answered my questions promptly. I had some reservations about the room. It was fairly standard, and perhaps I missed something, but it didn’t seem to match the specific room shown on Booking. The pictures looked like they might combine different units. My balcony faced a side street, although Teatro Massimo was still visible, and the rooftop terrace wasn’t accessible during my stay. After traveling around Italy, especially Sicily, I found the extra fees a little much. I knew about and paid both the small dog supplement and the late check-in fee for arriving at 8:00 pm, but they still felt unnecessary. There’s potential here, though at this price I think the atmosphere could better match what the location and presentation lead you to expect.
