Residence Il Capo

We could hear the market next door during the day, but nights were quiet. The shower is tiny, anyone bigger might get stuck 😃. The kitchen was unusually well equipped, and the accommodation sits in a fantastic location. We were happy with our stay.

The air conditioning never cooled the room, even set to 17°C. It just moved the hot air around. We couldn't sleep the first night, asked repeatedly for a fix, and were only told it would switch on and work. The next night was just as bad. Palermo was in a 45°C heat wave, and even the drains at the Residence were cracking, as shown in the photos. There was also an unexpected tax charge when we arrived. We'd already paid the room price plus €8 tourist tax, €2 per person per night. Then we were told to pay another €4 per person in cash because the owners said the municipality had raised the tax on July 1st. We'd booked a month earlier, before that change. A huge disappointment.

The apartment was spacious, clean, fully equipped, and had a comfortable bed. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and despite being right in the middle of the Il Capo market, the windows kept the noise out. The owners were welcoming and shared useful city information, plus a bottle of ice-cold water that was much appreciated in the heat. The location is right in the heart of Palermo. Parking that costs €13 for 24 hours is only a two-minute walk away. Magnificent in every way, I definitely recommend it.

It's a great area for visiting, and we got around by public transport. The only downside was the dirt in the streets around the apartment. They collect the market rubbish every evening, but the general neglect is, unfortunately, part of city life. That's another story. The welcome was warm and courteous, and they were always available on WhatsApp if we needed anything. The rooms were clean, with Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and everything we needed was provided on arrival. Even though the place is above the market, the closed windows kept all the noise out.
