Hotel Astor

Right by the train station, so the location was really convenient. The service was great, and the staff were lovely. I had a great stay.

The receptionist was kind and checked me in quickly. He also let me check out an hour later, which gave me time to get breakfast in the old town before catching my train from the station across the street. That arrangement could work well for a one-night stop when you're continuing by rail. The stay itself was uncomfortable, both for sleeping and using the bathroom. I booked at the last minute after my previous place said it was "overbooked". This room wasn't cheap, and the listing photos and description led me to choose it. The furniture is very old. Apart from the floor around the bed, the room looked as if it hadn't been renovated in 30-40 years. The least you'd expect despite that is basic hygiene, but there was a used soap bar from a previous guest on the broken bath tray, and the liquid soap container was still above the shower. There was mold between the tiles, a couple of hairs, and what looked like feces left on the toilet brush. The bed wasn't comfortable, and the poor sound insulation meant I could hear activity around me early in the morning, around 7.30am. I don't know whether it was staff or other guests, but they weren't being excessive. Light sleepers should avoid it. I feel bad writing this because I try to stay positive, and I wouldn't want an innocent person to get into trouble. The staff member was kind. My issue is with the owner or management: the lack of investment, false advertising, and what felt like pure greed made the place a total joke. This wasn't some 40€ bargain, either. Just avoid it.

The staff were very kind, and breakfast was served early. I stayed one night because of a sudden train strike. The hotel is clearly old, and so are the bed and mattress, but it was clean and I saw no bugs. The old mattress is soft, so if that suits you, it's a decent place for the day at a very affordable price. I'd recommend it.

I can't say much about the hotel itself, but its Luggage Storage was a great, fairly priced option directly across from Perugia’s train station.
