The pool and its sweeping view across the hills were a highlight, and I loved finding books about Sicily in the shared room. We stayed four lovely days at the masseria, a welcoming place that feels far removed from everyday routines. There’s no luxury or showiness here, just a connection to old farming traditions and scenery that invites you to slow down and think. Our modest, comfortable room had a little terrace where we could eat or have a quiet beer. A huge stone terrace beneath a lovely centuries-old olive tree made it easy to let time pass at its own pace.

The hospitality was perfect, and the countryside around this former estate of the Sgadari barons is beautiful and wonderfully quiet. If you’d like to step into the world of The Leopard, this is the place. We had a dream of a vacation.

It’s a refined, thoughtfully styled place where you get a feel for what a Sicilian fiefdom in the late nineteenth century was like.
