Campeggio Punta di Crabbia

Our “luxury” mobile home had no Wi-Fi or hot water, and the mosquito screens were full of holes. It wasn't worth the price.

The good parts won us over in the end. The campground is well placed, the private beach is amazing, and the family running it were really friendly and helpful. We also liked having the restaurant, with inexpensive, good cocktails, and the shuttle into the nearby city for just 3€ per person. We had a good five-night stay and would say it’s worth visiting when you’re traveling to Orta. Our tent pitch took some sorting out. The first spot was on sloping grass between cottages and felt like leftover space, so it wasn’t suitable for a tent. We moved to another pitch the next day. Most of the site is made up of long-term campers with permanent cottages, which gives it less of a shared, casual campground feel. The bathrooms are dated and not very clean. You need to bring your own toilet paper and hand soap, and showers are charged by the minute. That all felt a bit stingy.

Lake Orta is gorgeous, and this is a lovely spot for a family visit. The grounds are small but well looked after, and the staff are friendly with reasonable prices. The restaurant could be better, especially compared with the setting, but the location and service still earned five stars from me. The man at reception is a gem and seems to speak every language on the planet.

The toilets are a little old, though there are plenty of them around the campground. The restaurant is fairly priced, and they even have a free service to take your SUPs down, at Italian pace. If you want somewhere to camp with all the amenities you need, this is a good choice. I’d stay a few days and explore Orta and the lake.
