Hotel Maribel

The spa was a real treat, and we enjoyed it almost every night. The rooms were comfortable and had a breathtaking view. We had a wonderful time here in summer, with so many trails nearby. The staff were friendly and helped us choose the best trails.

At about €230 a night, this was not worth the money, and I wouldn't stay here again. Breakfast staff were lovely and polite, and although there was only a limited selection, the food quality was outstanding. The central location was convenient, and the spa was good too. We booked a junior suite expecting mountain views, but the view was just through a tiny window. The room was very hot and stuffy at night, with no cooling or fan. Opening the windows brought in very loud road and car noise, along with music, so it was hard to rest or sleep. This might be less of a problem in winter, when it's cold and the heating is likely on. The shower floor was cracked, and the bathroom lights ran on motion sensors that switched off while someone was still showering. There was no kettle or tea and coffee setup in the room. The breakfast was good, but eggs cost extra, €10 per egg. We didn't notice the inconspicuous sign, and breakfast staff never told us they would be charged separately, so we only found out at checkout. At reception, the older gentleman was cold, unhelpful, and almost impolite, while the younger man was welcoming and helpful.

We came for a week of hiking and ferrata in the Dolomites, hoping to unwind each evening after long days out. The junior suite we booked was supposed to have a great mountain view from a balcony, but instead there was only a small window looking toward the mountains. The room itself was comfortable, though bare bones, with no kettle, tea, coffee, or anything else. It had no ventilation or air conditioning, so nights were hot and stuffy. The hotel is beside the road, and traffic noise and loud music around the premises made it impossible to open the windows for air. The shower lights used movement sensors and kept going out even with someone in the shower, so most showers were in the dark. The two women working at breakfast and the spa were excellent, very nice and helpful. The front desk person was the opposite, extremely unfriendly and unhelpful, as if he didn't want us there. There were no breakfast menus on the tables, so we didn't know eggs cost extra. The breakfast women encouraged us to order eggs but didn't mention the charge. At checkout, we were told they cost EUR 10 per person. I complained that nobody had informed me, but the man at reception still made us pay. I have no idea how this is a 4-star hotel, it seems like 3 stars at best. I also don't understand its high reviews. I won't be back here, though I will return to Madonna every year.

The room was huge, with a superb bathroom, and the cleaning was impeccable. Breakfast offered plenty of choice and great quality. The staff were lovely, and this is easily the best hotel I've stayed at in the mountains. Definitely recommend.
