Hotel Villa San Giorgio

The room was so comfortable, and breakfast was fabulous. Such a beautiful hotel and a lovely place to stay. The staff were friendly and happy to help.

The meals were a highlight for us. Everything is made fresh in house each day by the chef, and each dish felt carefully prepared and full of flavor. The steak was exceptional, and the tortellini pasta is especially worth trying. Dinner, along with the staff’s hospitality, is one of my warmest and most lasting memories of the stay. The team made the place feel personal from the start. Reception and restaurant staff were warm, accommodating, and clearly cared about making our stay memorable. When I couldn’t eat my salad right away, two waitresses checked in and offered to fix or change it. Once I explained I wanted to save it for the next day, they understood straight away. Another time, while we waited for the restaurant to open, I casually asked if I could get a drink. The receptionist quickly made one and brought it out so we could sip it while strolling around the property. I think my favorite part might have been the staff! 😂 Hotel Villa San Giorgio sits among the rolling Tuscan hills in Chianti Classico country, with more than 15 vineyards within a 30-45 minute drive and a few small towns about 20-25 minutes away. It’s a handy base for wine lovers. The place has the charm of a small boutique hotel, with lovely views and a relaxed, intimate feel that made me feel at home. It’s a restorative little sanctuary, and it’ll always be one of my Tuscan favorites.

The restaurant was a real plus: excellent food at prices that weren’t too high. It’s also just a short walk up the hill to Cinciano for wine tastings and a michy rec’d restaurant. The staff were helpful, and getting here from Florence was easy. For the money, it’s a great stay in a gorgeous location.

The rooms were rundown, and the heating didn’t work during several days when temperatures were close to freezing. After complaining more than once, nothing changed, so we used a hairdryer to bring the temperature up to 65. The patio door was warped and wouldn’t close properly, leaving a gap; the photo of it and the condensation on the window show there was a real problem. The toilet flush was broken too. The bigger issue was how we were charged after checking out early. We had a flight from Florence the next day and were concerned about traffic, so we asked if we could leave a day early. The receptionist approved it. We checked out that day and paid, then noticed they’d charged us through the original checkout date. When we asked, she said we could leave, but the reservation ran until the next day, so they added a day. She said they weren’t putting us in handcuffs and that we could check out, but they would still charge us. If she’d told us that when we asked, we would have stayed and left early in the morning. Instead, after receiving approval, we booked and paid for a hotel in Florence, meaning we paid for two hotels and couldn’t change the plans. When we asked to speak to the owner or manager, the receptionist refused and said she was the manager. She also categorically denied us access to the owner. At breakfast, I was told I could order only two coffees. I didn’t want to pay for another when my 10-year-old hadn’t had any, and they brought a third as an exception. On the last day, I was denied a third espresso again, and only got it because my 10-year-old hadn’t had a second coffee. The owner’s reply seems not to know what happened, or is a flat-out lie. I understand the arguments about the reservation, which is exactly why we asked in advance whether we could leave early. The response misses the point.
