La Francigena

We only stayed one night, but we felt very comfortable here. It’s a lovely, relaxing place, and the hosts were so kind and welcoming. Dinner by the pool was excellent, all homemade. The cheese platters came with jams and honey they produce themselves. Everything was delicious.

The shower wasn’t well maintained. It’s a minor flaw to me, but if it were up to standard, I’d call this a five-star hotel. The rest made it well worth trying. Gabriella and Umberto are exceptional hosts at this B&B and make you feel at home. It’s a classic country house from the early 1900s, with rustic furnishings carefully selected by Gabriella, who is also a restorer. There are traditional local wooden beams on the ceiling. Umberto meticulously looks after the garden and pool, and can tell you about the local culture. With so many places around the property, it’s hard to get him to stop talking! The B&B has several apartments, each with an open-plan kitchen and living room, a bathroom, and two bedrooms. They all have a fantastic balcony overlooking the pool and the medieval castle of Staggia, a hamlet of Poggibonsi. Breakfast is made by Gabriella, with jams from every fruit, local milk, homemade cave cheeses, and anything else you want.

The apartment was clean and welcoming, and the town around it was quiet with very little traffic. Mrs. Gabriella greeted us as soon as we arrived and was immediately warm and kind. She gave us suggestions for nearby places to visit. She’s also an excellent cook and will make delicious meals for you if you ask. We were completely satisfied.

We had a great stay in a small house with its own entrance and a table outside. There’s parking, a pool, a hammock in the garden, a summer kitchen, and other nice touches. A medieval fortress with tours is only 50-100 meters away. The one downside was that the table by the entrance wasn’t clean.
