The cats are very, very cute 🐱. Vincenzo and his wife are passionate about running the hostel, really helpful, and well connected. Their local tips and advice were great. Agora has a relaxed, social feel, so it’s easy to meet people, hang out, talk, and make plans with other travelers. There’s a guitar, a drum, and games like Jenga if you’re in the mood. It’s a fun base for exploring Pompeii together, both the city and the ruins. I had a great time visiting, and the hosts really make the place.

Get the 12 Euro dinner at the hostel. It’s a proper homemade Italian meal and the best value food we had in Pompeii. The couple running Agora Hostel also made our one night count. The three of us were unprepared, but they sat down with us and mapped out where to go, which bus to take, and when to be ready. With our limited time, they highlighted the best parts of the ancient ruins. The rooms were clean and kept up well, and the location is handy for major sites and nearby train and bus stops. I’d highly recommend it to anyone coming to Pompeii. The service is what really sets it apart.

There’s a pleasant outdoor area, and the hosts gave us great local advice. The rooms are adequate, and for a hostel it’s good value. No cooking setup, but there’s a microwave, fridge, crockery, and cutlery. One drawback: they switch off the AC until 2pm, so the rooms get hot if you come back early from sightseeing.

The room was underwhelming, with two twin beds taking up most of its limited space and just one tiny wastebasket that looked almost like a toy. They switch the AC off from 10:00am-2:00pm to save money, I assume because most guests are out sightseeing. In the early August heat, we sometimes came back before 2:00pm to a room that was unbearably hot and humid, until we asked staff to turn the AC on again. The location is excellent for both the train station and ruins, and I liked the friendly staff, covered patio, and air conditioning when it was on. Still, those positives weren’t enough to make up for the room, so I’d give it three stars. It’s okay for someone watching their budget.

Clean, comfortable rooms and a great location near public transportation and the entrances to the ruins. The owners were friendly and ready to help. 🙏
