Camping Zeus

It's in the best spot, right by the Pompeii park entrance and train station, and the price is reasonable. The receptionists are friendly, and the washroom and bath are clean. My one small complaint is that there isn't a water fountain near the RV parking area. There were also too many ants, and our RV got infested after we parked too close to a lemon tree.

We stayed six nights in September in a car with a rooftop tent while visiting Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Naples. The campsite was good value, with the Pompeii entrance and train station right outside. Though it's close to all the tourist bustle, it was surprisingly quiet and green. Lime, tangerine, and olive trees gave us shade. Showers were clean, and warm water was free, which wasn't standard at most other campsites we stayed at in Southern Italy and Sicily. The layout of the wash block took some figuring out: the women's showers are right above the men's toilets, and vice versa. Twice men accidentally walked into the women's showers, and one walked into the women's toilets. The cubicles are cramped, so you have to hang dry clothes outside and do a slightly awkward dance to get dressed. There are hairdryers in the changing rooms. The toilets had no seats, which felt quite rustic, but they were clean and toilet paper was provided, unlike at some other places we'd stayed in Italy. The washing machine takes 35 minutes and works with coins. The supermarket is about a 15-minute walk downhill, but there are lots of tourist restaurants nearby, so gelato is easy to find. Loved this campsite, and highly recommend it for the price and location.

Service is good and friendly, and the sanitary facilities are clean and modern. The site is in the middle of town, close to the ruins, between the railway and a noisy road.

The clean facilities had lovely showers, but I found the lack of toilet seats bizarre and unpleasant. It was also quite noisy at night, so bring earplugs. For a Pompeii visit, it's worth considering: the price is good, the pitches are big enough, and late checkout is available until 2pm, making an early ruins visit possible. It's right by the station too, with a 35-40 minute train ride to Naples, and a bus company offers Vesuvius transfers at the station.
