Il Vecchio Fauno

The location made it easy to walk to all the main attractions in under 30 minutes, though it’s a little far from the train station, so we took a taxi. The apartment is on the third floor. Ermanno came soon after we arrived and carried our bags up, and the three flights were no problem without luggage. The beds were very comfortable, and having a living room was a nice change from sitting on a hotel bed. The place was well stocked and had lots of recommendations. There’s a club downstairs built with young people, but we were given earplugs and had some of our own, so it wasn’t a problem for us. Ermanno also arranged a reasonably priced taxi to the airport.

The only real downside was having no lift up to the first-floor reception. The breakfast room was simple and homely, and there was interesting artwork by the owner’s sister throughout the walls. There’s an excellent restaurant next door, with easy access to the Pompei entrance, theatre, and new centre. A lovely place in a perfect spot, with good facilities thoughtfully provided and an owner who clearly cares about guests.

We stayed at Il Vecchio Fauno in March 2024, right across from the Ruins, and everything was within walking distance. The hotel is beautiful and feels like home. Our room, 101, was near the front door, service desk, and dining room, and its window looked onto a wonderful backyard view with the mountains. The room was always clean, with fresh towels available. Daniel, the owner, welcomed us so warmly and made us feel at home. He shared restaurant tips and places locals love. It was such a pleasure staying here, and we’d definitely recommend it. We plan to come back and stay here again.

Very close to the amphitheatre entrance to the Pompeii ruins. A clean, friendly place with a great breakfast. Really good stay.
