Pompei Ruins

Bring good walking boots, as there’s a lot of ground to cover. You can wander the old streets and go inside buildings in a whole city laid bare by a volcano. Some bodies were dug out and preserved in the positions they were in when the lava covered them. There are also many recovered artifacts and original wall paintings to see. Such a beautiful place, with amazing history. I’d recommend visiting, it’s stunning.

I spent most of the day there and still reckon I saw less than half the site. It’s huge, so allow plenty of time if you want to take it all in. There are guides around for shorter tours who can point out many of the main sights. Wear decent shoes, the roads are rough to walk on, and there can be high steps or little jumps. Wheelchair ramps are available, though I don’t think it would be the easiest day out for someone with a disability. There isn’t much shade, so expect to spend a lot of time in the sun. The cafe in the middle is handy, but the prices are high for what you get.

Walking along the streets of this well-preserved Roman city was a highlight of our trip. The ruins are beautiful and really interesting, and I learned a lot. Trinket shops are kept outside the ruins.

It’s an amazing site and so well preserved. Bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water. In summer, you’ll want sunscreen, sunglasses, and something to shade yourself from the sun.
