Agriturismo Castagneto Picci

Birdsong and cowbells across the landscape were a lovely part of staying here. The family who run Castagneto Picci were kind and ready to help with requests, and I found the renovated old farmhouse comfortable and welcoming. My apartment had exposed beams and a wonderful view of Romena Castle. Set in the woods and countryside above Stia and Pratovecchio, it felt a world away from city noise. The pool was a welcome way to cool off on hot days, and solar panels provide electricity and hot water. WiFi in the common room was useful when I needed to get online. Pratovecchio is close enough to make exploring Casentino straightforward, and I enjoyed the local history, sights, and food. I’d happily return to this peaceful place, with its comfortable apartments, warm hosts, and beautiful views.

Getting there can be tricky, so don't rely on the GPS. If you're coming from Consuma Pass, turn left at Scarpaccia toward Stia, then go about a kilometer and watch for the signs on the right. Take the dirt road you find there and follow it for another kilometer. The farmhouse is lovely, set right in the Casentino countryside. Its apartments are roomy and well cared for, with kitchens, fireplaces, and heating, and the bedrooms aren't cramped.

The Poltri family are welcoming and kind. They made us feel at home and were glad to suggest places to visit and things to see.
