Albergo Giardino

I stopped here for a hot lunch while visiting Badia when Tuscany was still yellow, and heading out for a hike in the park. The lasagna and appetizer plate were both very good, and the whole meal was reasonably priced, around 15 euros.

We could choose between two rooms when we arrived, and the owners and staff were very kind and helpful. It's an old-fashioned hotel with its own charm, in a convenient spot. Breakfast was good, and the amenities are basic.

Breakfast was meager, with packaged, low-quality food. I tried the packaged ciambellone and didn't want to try anything else. The building feels neglected and dated, with a damp, musty smell. Furnishings are very old, carpets dirty, and cleanliness needs work. In the bathroom, a shower wets the whole room; the sink is tiny and the towel rack rusty. Even the towel sets don't match. There are so few outlets that the two of us had to take turns charging our devices. I'm fine with simple places, but this one needs a lot of improvement.

The location and breakfast were the only good parts. The building is run down, rooms are dirty, and there are often spiders about. I found one on my own pillow. The beds were uncomfortable, and the bathroom was in bad shape. Taking a shower meant flooding the whole bathroom. When we arrived, staff were almost entirely absent; we later learned that the bar next door handled everything, and nobody had told us. I rarely give a place 1/5, maybe this is my first time, but here it felt necessary. Truly terrible.
