Insula House B&B

The place is cute and modern, and a good price. I only stayed briefly, but a few things took away from it. The room was noisy, and we could hear the neighbors in the middle of the night, if you know what I mean. There were ants, the bed was incredibly uncomfortable, and the shower head wouldn’t stay attached, so we had to hold it. Self check-in was confusing, and I never met or saw the owner. Getting around without a car meant a lot of walking. The train station was about 13 minutes away, and walking there at night didn’t feel very safe. Attractions were quite far off, so the location wasn’t great. On the plus side, it was well decorated, with free breakfast, lots of towels, air conditioning and a balcony.

We couldn’t check in at all. We’d shared both my contact details and my mom’s several times through Expedia, where we booked, but they insisted we text them directly to arrange an airport shuttle and self check-in. That was confusing since the listing also mentioned a welcome desk. We messaged the day before and on the day we traveled, both by text and through Expedia, but got no reply. We’d sent our flight information a week ahead, yet there was no shuttle. We paid €48 for a taxi from the airport, but nobody was there, the door was locked, and no one answered the buzzer. Calls and texts went unanswered too. Expedia also tried to reach them without success and eventually rebooked us somewhere else. Two hours later, we still hadn’t heard anything, but we were happily checked in at our new hotel.

From the street, the building might make you wonder if you picked the right place. That feeling disappeared as soon as we stepped inside the flat. The rooms have a really modern feel from the lighting, colors and decor. There was a decent selection at breakfast, and it was filling enough to last through the day. Our room was spacious, with a mini-fridge and TV. The air conditioning worked well, the bathroom was nice to use, and the beds were very comfortable.

There’s free parking outside, and the place is clean, with a good-sized bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast was quaint. It’s close to Herculum and to the train station for trips to Naples, Pompeii and Sorrento.
