The ride back to the center of Positano by boat from La Sirene was free, though tips were appreciated, and the view of Positano from the water was one of the best. We’d walked down to Laurito Beach from Al Barilotto del Nonno, about ten minutes via 300 stairs, for lunch in September. The staff were friendly and took time to explain the menu. The fried gnocchi with arugula was one of our favorite meals of a two-week trip in Italy. Highly recommended, and worth the effort.

We arrived at the hotel on 31 July 2015 by way of the stairs, and it was a huge climb. My wife and daughter were exhausted, so I asked if there was another way up, but they said there wasn’t. It took us 45 minutes to make the climb, with a lot of difficulty. I later found out they had a boat service to Positano beach. I don’t understand why they’d do that, especially when the restaurant is so expensive.

The place itself is enchanting, with nicely appointed rooms and good bathrooms, and the price felt fair for what it was. I didn’t have a sea-view room, unfortunately, so it was quite dim. Getting around is a hassle: on land there’s a path and a very winding flight of stairs, or you can take a small boat from Positano. I wouldn’t return, since it’s inconveniently placed for exploring the rest of the Amalfi Coast.
