GA 2.
We booked Vista Di Capri through Lastminute.com based on the advertised 4 star hotel, breakfast at the Sky Bar, a room with a terrace, and access to the pool and beach at the 5 star Maya Beach resort. That wasn’t what we got. My husband has mobility issues, and we’d planned to use the terrace and Sky Bar to enjoy the Sorrento coast view. We arrived after 9pm, tired and hungry, and found nobody there. After we called, someone came to meet us and said all communication had to be through WhatsApp. We should have been given that number before arrival. When we asked about food, since we knew the Sky Bar was closed, we learned there is NO Sky Bar and no food or drink at Vista Di Capri. Breakfast and meals meant going to Maya. It became clear that everything revolves around using Maya’s facilities, with a free shuttle for the 5 minute ride down. The room was a good size and had no stairs, but it was very bare. There was only a Juliette balcony, not the terrace we booked. The room didn’t match the websites we’d seen: picture hooks but no pictures, no plants, no tea or coffee cups, no books, nothing to make it feel welcoming. We made it clear this wasn’t what we had booked. There aren’t any shared outdoor areas to sit, so we spent a lot of time in the room. The outside bins were overflowing, and the supposedly ‘lush’ gardens felt dangerous, with rubbish, bonfire remains, and holes around the jacuzzi/hot tubs. Wi-fi was unreliable, and the only staff on site were cleaners. The bamboo shade roof over the balcony in the next room was falling down. The whole place felt neglected. After 2 nights we were moved to Maya, but that came with several issues too and by then we’d begun to lose the will. Saturday is Club night, usually with 2000 youngsters attending. The Saturday we were there was called a ‘quiet’ night, with ‘only 1000’. Every day after 11am, the resort had an Ibiza/Ayia Napa feel, with a loud, constant bass beat until late evening. It wasn’t the peaceful, relaxing break we’d expected or wanted. We emailed Lastminute.com and GTO, who owns Vista Di Capri and Maya, and sent photos. So far, neither has replied.

I’ve stayed in hotels for 8 months out of the year, and nothing prepared me for how bad this place was. I hate leaving a negative review, but other people should know. The room was bigger than average, which was nice. The rest was a mess. There were lots of dead insects on the bed, the floor was covered in hair and trash, and the sheets clearly hadn’t been changed since the last guest checked out sometime during a previous administration. I asked the hotel to clean it better the next day, but the trash was still there and nothing had been done. Bugs crawled across the floor at night. One dried, flattened bug was stuck there the whole time, as if it had been stepped on years ago. I saw it every day. I also woke up with fresh bites on my face each morning. Whatever was in that room seemed to be feeding on me every night. The shower head sprayed water everywhere. I wasn’t sure it was a good idea to stand barefoot in that bathroom in the first place. Getting someone to help with the room was like trying to summon a ghost. Sometimes someone might show up a few hours later at night, but the response to complaints felt like enthusiastic indifference. At check-in, I asked if there was a fridge in the room and the staff member didn’t know. Another staff member couldn’t figure out how to operate the room itself. They seemed unfamiliar with the rooms they were meant to help guests with. There’s NO restaurant at this hotel. For breakfast, guests get loaded onto a shuttle and taken downhill to a different hotel called Maya. It’s a commute just to get a meal. Save yourself and book somewhere else. This is YOUR vacation, don’t let this hotel ruin it.

The pool and beach club are fantastic and well worth a visit. The breakfast was good, though there were no vegetables, cheese, or ham. But the room at Vista di Capri was shabby and run-down, as other reviews have mentioned, and the air conditioning had to be repaired several times during our two nights. I’d give it 3 stars at most, while the price is like a 4-star superior hotel.

The staff were polite and helpful, and the sunset view from the car park was beautiful. There’s a free shuttle to Sorrento town centre at limited times, plus a free ride down to Maya Beach resort. Maya Beach was clean and had some great views. The hotel is fairly close to Amalfi and Positano, and staying here costs less than staying in those places. We enjoyed an organised ferry day trip to both. Still, after 3 nights, I’m of two minds about Vista Di Capri Hotel. My partner and I paid for a double room with a terrace and sea view, plus access to the vip Maya Beach resort. The view from the room was hardly worth looking at, and in hindsight we wish we’d paid the extra to stay at Maya Hotel. The room was a decent size but run-down and needed a refurb. The booking site photos looked like they were taken a few years ago. There was a bad smell as soon as we walked in, and we later thought it was mosquito repellent. It didn’t help: mosquitoes must have got in through gaps in the doors or walls. I killed at least 15, and by the end of the stay we’d each had 20+ sore, itchy, painful bites across our bodies and faces. Cleanliness was questionable too, with hair on the walls and on “clean towels”. Restaurant options around the hotel and at Maya Beach resort were limited. The food at Maya was expensive for what we got: a club sandwich with crisps cost 20-25 euros, and a coke was 5 euros. Breakfast at the hotel barely had anything edible, was the same each day, and once we were given a dirty fork. For a 3 mile trip that takes 10 minutes, a taxi to or from Sorrento town centre costs 40 euros. It felt like gouging. The hotel is listed as 3 star, which I think is generous, and reception was unattended on a few occasions. Would I stay there again? Unfortunately, no.

The rooms were okay, nothing special, and the views of Capri from our room were lovely. The breakfast was great, and the staff working there were great too. But I can’t rate the hotel higher because the wifi didn’t work in our room, #419, and nothing was really done to fix it.
