Masseria Costanza

We spent the evening on the terrace with our own bottle, surrounded by olive trees. It was a real treat. The farmstay has a laid-back, down-to-earth feel, but there’s also a genuine 1700 trullo and a chapel with frescos. The family story behind the place is inspiring.

Mr. Pino made us feel like family, always checking what we needed and sharing the story of the masseria and its adjoining church. I’d asked for a savory breakfast for my son, and he made him scrambled eggs and grilled bacon every morning. He also pointed us to places for lunch. We were there May 1st to 4th, 2025, with my husband and our two children, and the peaceful grounds, full of flowers and centuries-old olive trees, were beautifully kept. Each apartment had patio tables and chairs, and the rooms were charming. The location worked perfectly for day trips: the Castellana Caves really were 5 minutes away, Alberobello 20 minutes, Polignano a Mare and Fasano 30 minutes, and Matera an hour. One small suggestion for Pino, the bathroom in our room could perhaps be improved ;-) We’ll stay here again when we return to Puglia.

The owner was friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and breakfast was good. Our room was clean, and the location made it easy to get to the main attractions, with the Castellana Caves just a couple of minutes away. We had a great time.

Mr. Pino is the sort of host who puts you at ease and is always ready with suggestions. The croissants at breakfast were delicious, and the typical Apulian focaccia was just as good. Masseria Costanza has a very quaint feel, though the outside could use a little more attention to detail. At night it can feel a bit isolated. It’s in the Apulian countryside, just minutes from central Putignano, although the narrow lanes and white dry-stone walls can make it seem remote at first. I’d recommend it if rural tourism suits you. Putignano is also a handy base for the usual area tour, including the zoo safari, Alberobello, Polignano, the Castellana Caves, Monopoli, and Matera, or for heading farther toward Salento.
