Grand Hotel Mattei

I mistakenly booked a room for the day after I had already arrived. Booking.com ignored my cancellation request and wasn't helpful, even though I was at the hotel a day early and the hotel was willing to cancel and make a new reservation. Thankfully, Giulia and Serena on the hotel staff helped us stay the night before the original booking without any extra charge. Many thanks to them!

I stayed last night and couldn't sleep at all. A conference at the hotel was allowed to play loud music until midnight, then kept partying right outside the front all night. I think they finally stopped around 5am. The staff did nothing, and there was no apology or compensation.

The staff were super friendly, which really made a difference. I checked out before dawn and the man at reception offered me complimentary coffee. The hotel is outside the old town, which makes it handy for conferences and business meetings, with easy road access and no parking hassle. Rooms are clean and spacious, though old-fashioned, with a very small LCD screen. The bathroom is large and the shower roomy, but water pressure and temperature kept changing during my shower. The beds are decent, there's enough desk space for a laptop, and the Wi-Fi works well enough.

We used this as a base for Mirabilandia park, and the kids liked the old western themed room. The staff were excellent and happy to accommodate requests. We were travelling with children and asked for a dish that wasn't on the menu for them. No problem, they served it with genuine warmth, as if they were doing something nice for the kids rather than a favor for the parents. Nice hotel, good restaurant and an excellent breakfast.
