Fattoria di Mandri

This old fattoria and mansion has a lot going for it, but its potential seems to have been left unrealized. A longer stay is depressing. I’d guess it was at its best 10-15 years ago. Now there’s no winery, oil production, restaurant or breakfast. They used to offer those things, but seem not to have kept up with modern booking or Airbnb service, and the place is half empty. The buildings are impressive, but barely maintained by the owners. The kitchen and shower equipment are also very old and in poor shape. The owner tries to be nice, but it doesn’t compare with the real hospitality I’ve found in other places in Italy, Austria, Germany or Croatia. As a guest, I felt like an unwelcome inconvenience. The worst part was the owner's explanation that the pool is in awful condition because the complex is antique and they aren't allowed to do anything about it. She talked about the pool's size in that context, but size isn't the problem. Its condition is. After a couple of days using it, visitors had bleeding feet because the bottom was in such terrible shape. It’s a sad story, given the place’s potential and what someone with a better approach might achieve.
