I'm trying again because Google blocked my original review. I booked the penthouse for a week for myself, my heavily pregnant wife, and our one-year-old. We chose it because it showed two bedrooms, looked bright and spacious, had a nice pool, and seemed close to the beach. It turned out the penthouse was actually the attic. There were no windows, and the sloping roof meant I couldn't stand upright in the bathroom or bedroom. The air conditioning only worked in the kitchen, leaving the bedrooms like a furnace. The balcony wasn't usable either: the AC unit blew hot air onto it, and sitting down meant you couldn't see over the railing. After one awful night in that baking hot place, we talked to the owner, Maria Theresa. We said the Booking.com listing was misleading and my pregnant wife couldn't stay a week in those conditions. She was all smiles at first, but got really nasty when we asked to leave and get a refund. She refused to return anything and wanted us to pay for a full week's bed linen before we left. We paid and left because it was that bad. As I handed over the money, I felt like she might attack me. I understand now what people mean by “if looks could kill.” The apartments are also a very long, steep walk from the beach, which is no fun in the heat. This was the worst place I've ever stayed, with the most appalling customer service. I'm still trying to get a refund through Booking.com. Unbelievably, they transferred the money to the owner even after I filed a complaint.

There were five of us, including three teenagers, and halfway through the stay the toilet stopped working, which was a major inconvenience. We contacted the owner about the bathroom problem on WhatsApp and have videos from our stay. When we arrived, the woman who helps prepare the apartments and her mother greeted us and showed us to ours, since there is no reception. Mr. Angelo then greeted us by cursing because we hadn't called him when we arrived. He also claimed we'd never stayed there, saying he had no registration for us. I don't recommend this place. Nothing like this has happened to us before.

The owners were helpful and courteous, and the place worked well for a quiet, restful holiday. The garden was beautifully kept, and there was a decent pool with sun loungers. We had spacious rooms and a veranda under the portico where we could eat. It's a good base for the lovely beaches of the Costa degli Dei, with Tropea about a 15-minute drive away.

The garden pool was the standout for us: palm trees around it, green space with loungers and sofas, and a thorough cleaning early each morning. The pool runs from 9am to 9pm, and our ground-floor apartment was only about 20 steps away. You can come back from the beach, have someone cook pasta while the others swim, then eat whenever suits. There are sea and pool views, plus some lovely sunsets. We stayed June 28 - July 8 - 2025, in a three-bedroom apartment with enough space and a veranda shaded enough to use all day. The air conditioning and layout gave us decent privacy, even when eating outdoors. Parking was convenient, behind an iron gate with remote control. The residence feels set up for a quiet stay, with about a dozen apartments over two levels, a children's pool area, a whirlpool that wasn't always open, a gazebo relaxation area with a hot drink and snack vending machine, and a barbecue. We enjoyed the owner Angelo's company, and he gave us good advice. The barbecue by the pool on July 6th was memorable, after a determined hunt for steak in local supermarkets. You're welcome to barbecue there. A few things need attention: some fittings and furniture were faulty. The fridge door had come off its hinge, a closet wasn't square, and the toilet tank leaked a little. I shut the fill valve to avoid wasting water and stop the boiler from grumbling as the pressure dropped. You'll need a car to get around. Two bakeries for morning pastries are about five minutes away on the way up to Ricadi. The Piazzetta di S. Maria di Ricadi and beaches are only a few hundred meters away, but driving is still best. I'd suggest Fortino beach. Grotticelle and Tono are within a 10-minute drive; Formicoli and Riaci are a little farther. Parghelia/Michelino took 25 minutes, and you need to park and walk down 200 steps. Tropea is 20 minutes away, Pizzo 50. For supermarkets, Coop took seven minutes, Conad 14, and Eurospar around 16-18. The location is handy, though it isn't equally close to the main beaches, since it's already south of the Capo Vaticano area. Maybe we were lucky with the ideal weather: calm, clear, warm water, no jellyfish, and sunshine that wasn't harsh. It made for an iconic holiday.
