Hotel Arcangelo

For the first time in my life, I spent two nights shivering in a cold hotel room with no heating. When I asked for an explanation, a worker said they had no solution. The toilets were dirty, nothing like the pictures, and the balcony overlooked a very dirty swimming pool. I took room 306, and it was filthy. I've moved to another hotel now.

The hotel kept rejecting my card while I was booking through Booking.com, then charged it twice. They said they would refund the extra payment of €160, but two months have passed and I still haven't got the money. This happened over my August 19-21 booking, and it's the first time I've had anything like this happen. I hope it doesn't happen to anyone else who books here.

The room upgrade to a larger one was a nice gesture, and we're thankful for it. Apparently the economy rooms are only on the ground floor, though if this upgraded room was what we got, I don't want to imagine how the one we booked looked. Housekeeping did a great job and left the rooms spotless every day, although they always forgot the extra soap and we had to ask for it. The night porter was very friendly, and it was a pleasure to talk with him. Air conditioning worked even when nobody was in the room, which was a big plus for us. There was a safe and minibar, but we didn't use them. Parking was easy to find nearby, even during a busy period. The Wi-Fi was very bad in our experience. I told the receptionist twice during the first two days, and she said it was strange and she hadn't heard of problems. After that I had to reset the router myself every day to get connected. Breakfast was apparently available if it wasn't included in the room price, but it was very basic, with limited choices and no eggs because the hotel doesn't have a restaurant. We were glad it wasn't included and bought a much richer breakfast at another four-star hotel on the way to the beach for €8 per person. The hotel is 500 meters from the beach, and the small rooms have very thin walls and doors. After 7 a.m., it was almost impossible to sleep because of banging doors and noise from other rooms. The place clearly needs renovation: the rooms are quite dated, with stained walls, disgusting bathroom fixtures, old stained shower curtains, and a very strange old shower system. A quick shower left the whole bathroom soaked because the curtain was no good. The carpet in the rooms was a plus for me. We booked seven nights by mistake, and wanted to shorten the stay to four nights because family invited us to celebrate our anniversary with them afterward. The hotel wouldn't allow it, apparently worried about losing the room, even though the weekend was coming and they could easily have sold it again. Agoda said they would help shorten the stay and refund the unused nights, but the hotel refused. It felt like money mattered more than customer service, perhaps even enough to risk a bad review. We had a quiet stay overall, though, and are thankful for the upgrade. We won't come back, but hope this review sheds some light and encourages the owner to do better. I'd advise against booking every night here, and to choose free cancellation, since there are plenty of better places closer to the beach, with cheaper prices, better breakfast, or better rooms that you only discover after arriving.

My card was rejected and my reservation was canceled the day before the stay, without anyone contacting me. They said the card was invalid, but that wasn't true. I'd used it for many other bookings. I understand it as a strategy to raise the price during high demand in the area because they didn't like what I was paying. I've never had this happen before. Unbelievable.
