Hotel Mehari

A big room, very clean, and great value for money. The location was great too. Many thanks to the staff for their excellent attitude and cheerful manner. The owner was helpful and very service minded.

We were happy with our stay. The room was clean and had enough space for our luggage. It's a quiet place, and the people were warm and welcoming. I'd happily recommend it.

I've stayed in one-star guesthouses and hostels, and my family and I can adapt, but I've never been anywhere this cramped. We waited about 40 minutes because nobody was at reception. We called, then waited some more. Outside, the place looked run down, with a broken window and a pile of furniture being renovated. The owners arrived, I think, in a less than presentable state. They charged tourist tax for the children too, who were 10 and 12. The room was dilapidated, and the bathroom was dirty. The shower leaked, and the bidet and sink drains didn't work, so water stayed pooled there. There was no toilet paper. It was very noisy at night, with a huge racket coming from the stairs. The bunk bed wobbled and creaked. We left the next morning, but there was nobody at reception to hand the keys to, so we left them there. The place was very dirty, and the area didn't seem particularly safe to me. It really isn't worth it. Forget it and move on.

The best part was leaving after less than seven hours, most of which I spent asleep. Overnight, there was shouting and heavy footsteps on the landing, like a basketball game or a fight going on. I found the place much worse than I’d expected, though I’m not used to hotels in this category. The outside had been renovated, but inside the decor and furnishings looked dated even by 1970s standards. Rooms seemed to be put together on the spot rather than provided as requested. We had a double room turned into a triple, it didn’t work, and we had to move. The shower barely deserved the name, the sheets looked used, and the ceiling light had been taken apart and didn’t work. It felt more like a jungle than a hotel. I won’t forget the stay.
