La Zorza

The staff were the only good part. We ate at the bar and got the worst pizza I’ve ever had. It tasted like a frozen margherita with three slices of salami thrown on top and sold as a salami pizza for 9 euros. We also saw boxes for pizzas and pasta in the trash.

The beds were comfortable, the rooms clean, and the showers had reliably hot water. Everyone on staff was friendly and spoke good English. It’s easy to find on the main street, and we could leave our bags before check-in so we could go explore. The bar downstairs is popular and a nice spot for a drink.

I was nervous after reading the reviews, but we booked anyway because of the location. Once we saw the room, we were blown away. It was spacious, clean, and honestly better than some four-star hotels we’ve stayed in around Italy. Highly recommend!

The room itself was gorgeous, with a comfy bed, private bathroom, linen, fridge, and kettle. We stayed three nights, though, and barely slept. The noise from upstairs carried loudly through the wooden ceiling: furniture scraping, hard shoes clomping, and clattering from sunrise until well after midnight. Then other guests came back in the early hours, talking constantly and banging doors. It all echoed into the room. The location is great, right at the bottom of the main street. Check-in happens at the restaurant downstairs, so there’s no hotel desk. The staff were haughty and unsmiling. One day we came in for lunch while people were eating, but were bluntly turned away with “the kitchen is closed.”
