We chose our health and left without staying. There was urine on the toilet and brown marks on the bathroom door, which we didn't inspect closely. The room had a strong damp smell, and when we looked around, it was full of mold. I don't want to imagine what the mattresses or the walls behind the furniture looked like. We were able to cancel without much discussion and didn't have to pay for the reservation. Pick another place in Riomaggiore or take the train to another town. I wouldn't stay here even if I were paid.

Our flat was right in the village center, across from several bars, restaurants, a co-op grocery, and a laundry. We liked the village much more than the resort-like towns farther north. The apartment rental was cheaper than any hotel we found, at least in the off season. The kitchen had most of the tableware and cooking tools we needed. There was hand soap and towels, but no shampoo. The radiant floor heating was a nice surprise.

At 50 euros a night, the location and service were great, and the room was fine for a couple of nights. It's dated, with some fungus in the bathroom and just a small window, but you can't expect much more at this price. It'd suit students or anyone trying to keep costs down. Parking nearby is a real problem. Free parking is available, though it's a 30-minute walk with lots of stairs.

I was worn out from getting to the city, and ended up crying at the desk because the staff were so rude. The staff member got angry and asked why I was crying, making me feel like an idiot for not understanding his English. The staff were loud, rude, and spoke very poor English. From our room down the hall, we could hear the desk clerk yelling at other guests in Italian, along with the town bell ringing every hour. We had booked one night, then emailed months ahead to ask for another. They said yes, and we printed the email as proof. A few days before the trip, they wrote that there had been an error and we couldn't stay for two nights. We didn't see the message because we were travelling that day. At check-in there was only one room for us, so for the second night we had to switch rooms, and my husband had to sleep on the floor because the new room had only a single bed. There was no empathy from the staff. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone.
