Hotel La Montanara

The room gets 4/5: it was spacious, had a balcony with nice views, and the bathroom was roomy too. Check-in was a delight, and the gentleman at reception was very cordial. He helped us with parking and carried our luggage up to the top floor. His service gets 5/5. Breakfast didn’t offer much variety, though to be fair, that seemed common at hotels in the area. 3/5. I was ready to rate the place 5/5 until an older woman with short bobbed hair made breakfast such a bad experience. My sandwich had meat I hadn’t asked for and wasn’t made as ordered. When I told her, she threw a fit, made faces, gave me rude looks and walked off, then tossed the plate into the sink so it echoed through the restaurant. I hadn’t made a fuss about the sandwich, so I don’t understand why she did. She stayed angry and kept rushing around, banging dishes and making noise with everything afterward. God help her. All the other staff were sweet and served us with a smile. 5/5.

We came for the restaurant and found the service caring and very nice, with a homely feel. The food had the usual high Italian quality and real attention to detail. Portions weren’t large, but the quality was top notch.

I ended up staying three nights after initially planning just one, and it was one of my best stays in Italy. I’d found the hotel by chance while looking for a quiet Dolomites stop away from tourist spots, with lovely scenery and interesting walks. It’s an authentic traditional place with a good-value half-board deal. My room was a good size, clean and well equipped, with a balcony overlooking the valley. The hotel was spotless and charming, but the friendly, helpful staff and excellent dinners are what made it special. Francesco, his wife, his sister and even his young son all made me feel at home. Dinner service was quick and courteous, and you could feel the kitchen’s passion. The village is set off the main valley road and is very peaceful, apart from the nearby church bells and the bubbling stream next door. I loved wandering around the wooden houses and barns, all decorated with flowers and interesting details. It felt like a living museum. I walked around several times, as the changing light brought out things I hadn’t noticed before. There’s free parking, English is spoken, payment was easy, internet access was good and the rooms were serviced efficiently. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

The food and wine were great, and the staff were awesome. It’s a stunning hotel tucked away somewhere quiet, and the owners are so nice and make you feel welcome. Thank you!!
