Hotel Lloyd Roma

The room was damp, and the bathroom smelled of cigarettes and was completely outdated. The building really needs renovating. On the plus side, the three-night price was very cheap, breakfast had a pretty good range of options, and the location near Roma Termini made it easy to get around by public transport.

Breakfast was generous, with sweet and savory items, scrambled eggs, yogurt and granola, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The location was good, and the staff were very friendly. The rooms and bathrooms are a bit old, but that didn’t bother us. The bed was very large and comfortable.

The hotel is really outdated, and we wouldn’t recommend it. Our window wouldn’t close properly, the box for the room card came apart whenever we pulled the card out, and the sink wasn’t sturdy. On our second day there was no hot water all day, so my wife couldn’t shower because she’s very sensitive to hot water. When we raised it with staff, they kept putting us off. Breakfast wasn’t particularly good either. We had to pay an extra €84 when we arrived because of our voucher. The charge was in the small print and felt like a complete rip-off for just two days. Without the voucher, we wouldn’t have booked this hotel.

The neighborhood had plenty of restaurants and supermarkets, including Penny, which was handy for small purchases. There’s no metro nearby, though, and the closest bus stop is about a 10-minute walk. The train station is roughly 20 minutes away on foot, but I’d take the bus instead. Much of the walk is cobblestone, which makes it tough with a trolley case and could damage the wheels. Paying for bus tickets by card was convenient. Our room was spacious and had useful air conditioning, and it was cleaned daily to a high standard. The towels were excellent, and the bathroom was modern and pleasant. The bed was uncomfortable because you could clearly feel the mattress springs. There was also a constant, disturbing noise during the whole stay, possibly from a generator, which made it hard to relax. There was no refrigerator or minibar in the room, despite the listing mentioning a minibar. The internet was described as high speed, but it was so poor it was unusable. The hairdryer was extremely weak and practically useless. We appreciated the complimentary disposable slippers, though they were very basic. Breakfast was okay, with enough to start the day but not much variety. The coffee was good, but only one of the two machines worked throughout our stay. There were positives, but several issues made the four nights less comfortable than we expected.
