Hotel Abruzzi

It isn't the cheapest place, but I thought it was worth the money if you want to treat yourself. The staff were friendly, attentive, accommodating, and quick to respond to questions and messages. Right on Piazza della Rotonda by the Pantheon, it's surrounded by restaurants, shops, churches, and sights within a 10-15 minute walk. There's also a taxi stand in the Piazza for anywhere you'd rather not walk. A fantastic place to stay in Rome.

The view over the Pantheon and piazza Rotonda was breathtaking. We booked a room with the Pantheon view, and I could hardly believe it each time I looked out. The location was unbeatable. We walked to the Vatican, Piazza Navona, and Trevi Fountain, and explored the area easily. We're both in our 60s and had no trouble getting around. My sister and I stayed three nights at Hotel Abruzzi and loved it. The room was clean, with a roomy shower and bathroom, and the beds were so comfortable we slept great. The hotel was clean too, and the staff were efficient, personable, and knowledgeable, going out of their way to help. We were warmly welcomed, and our room was ready early. Porter Danielle brought our luggage up, showed us how to use everything, and gave us a lovely welcome. The elevator is new and meets EU energy usage rules, so it's a little slow, but we got used to it. A display shows which floor you're on. Breakfast was included at a cute ristorante just a few steps away, with plenty of delicious food. Ten out of ten, we'd highly recommend Hotel Abruzzi, run by director Nicola, who is a gem. You feel like family in a foreign country.

We enjoyed our corner room in the annex. Even with the street below full of lively pedestrians, we never heard a thing inside. The staff were charming and efficient. There were restaurants and gelato shops everywhere. We went to the Trevi Fountain before breakfast to avoid the entrance fee and crowds, but missed the Pantheon because we hadn't booked ahead and had no euros to pay that day. We'd stay here again.

The service was great, and everything else about the stay was good. Our only snag was the water heater: hot water ran out quickly, perhaps because it was shared with other rooms, though I'm not sure. Some of us had to shower in cold water at night. Luckily, it was hot outside. The location was great.
