Anfiteatro Suite

We were in Rome to see David gilmour play nearby, and the location was amazing, just a two-minute walk from the Colosseum. The apartment door and room both had their own keys, and those worked fine. The air conditioning was lovely, and there was a fridge and wardrobe. You only get one pillow each, so if, like me, you need two, ask in advance. The room looked great until I took a closer look. There was dust on the wall lights right above the bed, the bathroom was moldy (though I guess it's an old building), and the toilet seat was cracked. Wi-Fi only worked when you were sitting on the sofa. We were paying for the location, not the room, and it was overpriced for what we got. I'd rate the apartment 6/10. Loved rome.

The location was the only good thing. The manager had confirmed in writing that we could check in at 9:30, but after more than 24 hours of planes and trains, when we arrived around then, she said check-in was at 12:30, then changed it again to 14:00. She was unbelievably rude to us and to the Czech guests ahead of us. She demanded they pay the so-called “tourist tax,” an extra charge on the hotel bill for tourists from outside the country, in cash. She had no receipt book, and when they asked for a receipt, she scribbled something on a notepad. Before we'd even checked in, she demanded the same payment from us. After seeing what happened, we said we'd pay by card, not cash. Another guest came out during the commotion and said she was unhappy with both the manager and the room. The manager's English was not good enough to deal with tourists, and she was exceptionally rude and unhelpful. She made us feel very unwelcome. The room door also jammed when we tried to leave from inside. A neighbor came out to check if we were stuck; apparently the same thing had happened to the previous guests that morning. We had to slide our access card under the door so the neighbor could open it from the outside. The rest of the experience in Rome was tainted by all this. I'd choose somewhere more welcoming.

We had plenty of room for two, and the location was great, with everything within about a five-minute walk. The room could’ve been cleaner, though, and there was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. Fix those things and I’d rate it four stars.

The online photos don’t match what you find here. The walls, shower, kettle, TV, and air-conditioning remote were filthy, and the air conditioning itself didn’t work. The shower hose was dirty and damaged too. Avoid this hotel.
