We booked by phone for two nights and specifically asked whether there was a private bathroom. We were told there was, but it turned out to be shared by four double or triple rooms. It felt like a hostel charging rather pretentious B&B prices. The bathroom, our room, and the tiny shared areas were all dirty. The sheets and towels left for us had blood stains, the blankets smelled and had obvious marks, and the light fixtures looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in about ten years. It was also extremely noisy, with the windows facing Via La Spezia, the main traffic hub of San Giovanni. A terrible experience, and we’ll never come back. I’d advise people to stay elsewhere, since there are plenty of welcoming, clean, comfortable B&Bs in the area for the same price.

The nearby small shops were excellent, with good, inexpensive snacks and finger food easy to find. Our room was unfortunately very noisy, though we enjoyed the stay overall. The place can be hard to locate since it’s essentially an apartment on one floor, but the price seemed reasonable for such a central location. The rooms had the charm of an old Italian building, with large, opulent furniture and pictures, and plenty of creaks and groans. We didn’t mind sharing the bathroom. Breakfast was typically sweet, though almost lavish by Italian standards.
