Bed Breakfast Al Vicoletto

The owner gave us helpful suggestions for places to see and getting around. We stayed in Trastevere, a picturesque neighborhood that's much quieter than central Rome. The rooms are spacious, and though our bathroom was shared with another room, it was clean and tidy. One of the photos is a little misleading, but the price is very good and more than fair for Rome, where you're usually out exploring instead of spending all your time in the hotel. Highly recommended.

The woman who welcomed us was very nice, and the bed was comfortable. Finding the place was a real struggle because there were so few signs, and the noise carried on day and night. They made the beds each day, but we ran out of toilet paper and no one replaced it or was around to ask. Breakfast was basic, and they didn't refill things as the days went on. On our last morning, there was no coffee or butter.

The owner was friendly, and the location is fairly convenient, close to Roma Trastevere metro station and tram line 8. The towels were clean when we arrived. Beyond that, the apartment was filthy. The showerhead was broken, the kitchen tap wouldn't stop running, and the toilet seat was loose and broken. Breakfast was mediocre, and the other people staying there took our coffee and left the bathroom in a terrible state. There was no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan. The locks were old-fashioned and so fiddly they took a lot of patience. We'd booked an apartment with a balcony on Booking.com, but there wasn't one. The owner said it was Booking.com's fault and nothing could be done, with no refund available. Given the room price for Rome, I can understand that, anyway. The apartment was also poorly cleaned, and the sheets were changed only every three days. In Rome's summer, the lack of air conditioning was a real problem. I wouldn't recommend it unless you had no other option at the last minute, and then for one night at most. If you've had one too many, you'll never get home with those locks. It's a shame there's no zero-star option.

We left just a few hours after checking in. The place was dirty and neglected, with no air conditioning and a broken fan that seemed at risk of falling on us. The bathroom was large, but the fixtures were old and the toilet seat wobbled enough to risk making you fall. The furnishings were held together with phone books, and the TV kept losing channels.
