Buonarroti Suite

The rooms felt more like a hostel or student dorm than a hotel. They were extremely small, poorly insulated and right beside reception. Breakfast was served in that same reception area, which felt awkward and unlike what I'd expect from a hotel with this rating. When we arrived, there were brown stains on the bed sheet. I politely asked the receptionist for a clean one, and he gave us one, but already seemed passive-aggressive. Later, I asked the same man if I could borrow a wine opener, and he suddenly got very angry and shouted: “You come here for this and that and you think you own this place. You’ve been here 10 times asking me!!” I'd only asked two ordinary questions that a hotel guest might ask. He went on to say I should be grateful to have a roof over my head and a bed, and had no right to complain. I said I was paying good money and only expected standard service. He raised his voice more and ended by yelling at me to “go to hell.” My partner and I felt completely unwelcome and even unsafe. It was one of the worst hotel stays we've had, and the service was aggressive, unprofessional and unacceptable. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

We had a really pleasant stay. The owner or receptionist was so kind, and his dog pipa was adorable. Our kid got to play with her, and he even let us leave our luggage after checkout. Definitely recommend.

The reception lady was really warm, and the location is great. My issue was with the man in the room opposite the reception desk. At breakfast I asked if eggs were possible, but the breakfast lady didn't understand. He came out and told me in English that this was all they served, they weren't a 5 star hotel, and I could leave if I didn't like it. It was mega rude. I'm from South Asia, and that kind of attitude can easily come across as racist, though I'm not sure what prompted it. I wouldn't have told anyone to stay here if not for the lovely receptionist. Rome is a weird place.

The person at reception helped us prioritize and plan what to see with the limited time we had in Rome. We were quite close to a major basilica, where we also saw Pope Francis in 2023. The fresh pastries were amazing, and although the room and washroom were small, they were clean and functional.
