Chroma Tessera

I needed somewhere near Roma Termini for my first night in Rome, and this worked out great. The station was an easy five-minute walk away. The room was quiet, clean, and comfortable, with modern, stylish decor. The host was helpful.

The host entered my room while I was out, without asking or notifying me first, even though I’d hung the “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. That was a complete violation of my privacy and comfort. Chroma Tessera in Rome was a nightmare, and I wouldn’t call it a proper hotel. There was no reception or room service, and I felt the listing was misleading. If you value your privacy or even basic hospitality, stay away and find somewhere that actually cares about guests. One star.

The website claimed there was a minibar, a coffee house on site, breakfast, and bathrobes. None of that was true. No breakfast was available, and there wasn’t even anywhere to eat it. The site was very misleading. Outside, bins were overflowing, there was litter everywhere, and the area was very dirty, with many rough sleepers. When we complained, the hotel told us to be more careful about where we book. They didn’t consider a refund or even apologize. On arrival, we couldn’t get in. The so-called hotel was just one floor of an apartment block shared with other businesses and private residences, and entry depended on an intercom. We pressed it several times without an answer. Eventually a local cafe worker called the hotel, and someone came to let us in. The website said staff spoke English, but the only staff member we encountered was a woman who spoke none. The room was nothing like the advertised one. When we opened the balcony doors, the small balcony was taken up by an air conditioning unit covered in bird droppings. The smell was so bad we couldn’t leave the doors open, and birds outside the window were very noisy. The room was very poorly decorated, there was limescale around the shower, and the fridge door was broken. I’d never stay here again. Very disappointing.

Clean rooms in a pre-war building and a good location. It’s not a typical hotel, more like an apartment you rent.
