Colonna Palace

We spent Christmas week here and loved the old-fashioned charm. Our duplex was spacious, with modern bathrooms, and the cleaning staff were attentive and efficient. Breakfast indoors felt cosy in December, while the rooftop would be a treat in warmer weather. The view over the square and nearby buildings is lovely for morning coffee or sunset. Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the best shopping streets are a short walk away. Police regularly patrol the square, which helped us feel safe.

The hotel bar beside reception has a decent choice of wines and spirits at reasonable prices, and the staff there are attentive and pleasant. I also recommend breakfast on the rooftop, where the view across Rome is incredible. I return here whenever I visit the city. The hotel keeps its Old World character instead of being over-modernized, and the staff are friendly and efficient. It’s opposite the Chamber of Deputies and only a few minutes from the Pantheon. Even in such a central part of a big European city, there’s very little noise.

The location is the main reason to stay here. Staff were friendly, the Wi-Fi worked well for me, and breakfast was prompt and good. But my room felt old and dated, with just one small window and electrical outlets that seemed to be from the 1950s. It was directly below the breakfast area, so at 7:30 every morning I could hear all the movement upstairs. If comfort matters to you, this probably isn’t your kind of hotel.

The rooftop breakfast had brilliant views over Rome, and the buffet offered good quality food with enough choice to get the day started. The location is fantastic, and every staff member was friendly and helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel or return.
