Domus Colosseo Hotel

The Wi-Fi was pretty good, but I won't be staying here again. I come to Rome once or twice a year to see family, and there are plenty of 3-star B&Bs where guests are treated with more respect. The manager was very rude. We checked out at 10am like you do at most hotels, but our flight wasn't until late afternoon or evening. He didn't want people who were “no longer guests” sitting in the lobby, and his comments and looks made us feel completely unwelcome. We ended up leaving with our luggage four hours before our taxi was due. If you book bed and breakfast, forget the breakfast unless stale cereal and dried-out pastries sound appealing. The room was tiny, the walls were paper-thin, and the mattress was uncomfortable. The duvet felt like a curtain with an itchy fleece over it. There’s also a car repair garage around the side of the hotel, so if you have a late night and hope to sleep in, forget it.

This was the worst experience I've ever had. I booked and paid in advance through Expedia, but when I arrived there was no sign, nothing on the door, and no front desk. The phone numbers Expedia gave me didn't work. I tried numbers I found online, and an Italian woman answered. She said she didn't know what I was talking about and that it was impossible to have a reservation because the unit was rented. She kept saying she couldn't help, it was her day off, and she was sorry. I spent 45 minutes on the sidewalk in the hot sun calling Expedia, and they couldn't reach anyone either. Luckily, Expedia quickly rebooked me at a better “hotel” down the street, Hotel Celio. I do NOT recommend Domus, period.

Very poor treatment. I couldn't take a shower because the water was only lukewarm. They checked and confirmed it wasn't warm enough, but still didn't refund the prepaid night. Incredible, this has never happened to me before. Don't stay here!

The staff were really friendly, and the location is excellent. A good base for a short weekend in Rome.
