Easy Budget Colosseo

The location beside the Colosseum was excellent, and the property sent detailed directions for getting in. There were a few useful extras too: a small fridge with free water, a clothes steamer, a hair dryer and a coffee bar. Beyond that, our stay was a huge disappointment. Our friends' two-night reservation was canceled for no clear reason. Management wouldn't reply to me or contact them, even though we later found out at least two rooms were available. Our friends ended up a mile away, and the last days of our trip together were spoiled. Management's response was to report me to booking.com/Priceline for “embarrassing them” by describing how unhelpful they had been. I'd never used those services before, and after that experience, I won't again if this is how they handle complaints. The TV had no English-language channels. After another frustrating WhatsApp exchange, the only way to reach management, they reported me again and suggested we couldn't find the channels or had somehow broken the TV. They offered to cancel our remaining nights and refund us, but as elderly travelers, packing and moving would have been too difficult, and I didn't trust them to return the money. The next morning, a staff member spent 20 minutes checking and confirmed there were no English channels. Management then offered to move us to two other rooms that supposedly had them. I asked whether those were the “superior rooms” I'd paid an extra €20 per night for. The staff member said all rooms cost the same. So I was charged extra for no reason, and it also confirmed there were rooms available for our friends. The final night was the worst. The power went out at 1:00 am. Management said they'd called technicians, but as we left we saw a notice saying this was a scheduled outage they'd known about and hadn't told guests. We spent the rest of the night in sweltering heat, worrying about carrying six pieces of luggage down four dark flights of stairs, with no lift and no staff on duty to help. Earlier in the stay, I'd fallen on an unexpected step in their office area. They knew, since their cameras monitor guests constantly, but never checked on me. When I complained about the blackout, they reported me to booking.com again. That felt intimidating. The house rules were extreme: turn off the AC and lights when leaving; no visitors in your room, with a €100 fine threatened; no food in the room, so no pizza or snacks; strict quiet hours like summer camp; and extra charges for another towel or for changing the sheets. Our friends even had to wait outside in the heat. After the stay, I froze the credit card used for the booking to avoid any surprise charges. If anything goes wrong, you're on your own. It felt like their motto was “The customer is always wrong.” I can't recommend this property.

We first stayed here in 2022 on our first trip to Rome. The location is ideal, within walking distance of the colosseum and surrounded by lots of lovely places to eat. The neighborhood is quiet, and the rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay. From the moment we arrived, everyone was kind and accommodating. Nothing felt like too much trouble: they lent us an adapter after we'd left ours behind, called a taxi, and messaged us with anything we needed to know during the trip. That service is why we came back last May to celebrate my 30th birthday. It was a different room and a different year, but the same lovely hospitality. We're hoping to visit Rome in August and will definitely look at staying at Easy Budget Colosseo again. I can't recommend it enough.

We were left without a place to stay after the hotel canceled our booking the day before we were due to arrive. The online payment kept being rejected despite enough money on every card we tried, and calls went unanswered. Messages got very little response, so it felt like nobody cared about our reservation. A few minutes after canceling us, they already had the apartment booked for someone else. We suspect they got a better offer. I wouldn't recommend it.

Our reservation, made six months ahead, was canceled because the hotel had overbooked, then immediately handed to someone willing to pay more. The way they handled it felt corrupt and rude. If they're going to run a crooked business, they could at least admit it. Booking shouldn't allow this either. A city that depends on tourism shouldn't treat visitors this way.
