Ginevra Palace Hotel

The private underground parking cost 10 Euro a day. We used it and would again if we had a car, since the public parking outside didn't feel very safe to us. The street and neighborhood are a bit dark at night, if you know what I mean. For the price, breakfast is a nice extra, but the buffet has a standard, limited selection and repeats mostly the same things every other day. Cleanliness was okay, not bad. The rooms are spacious, but that's about it for comfort. Location-wise, it's a good choice at half the price of downtown hotels, and it's around 30 minutes from the city centre by car or public transport. You get what you pay for, it's not bad, but it's not that good either.

Sleep was impossible here. There was construction noise in the mornings and loud guests at night, and we could clearly hear people talking in the neighboring rooms. With temperatures around 30°C overnight, the broken air conditioner meant we had to leave the window open. Mosquitoes bit us all over, and it was too hot to sleep. We told reception about the AC, but they just said maintenance was underway and told us to keep the window open. I wish we'd known the hotel was under maintenance before booking. Other parts of the room were just as bad. The bed was so small that two people could barely fit. The bathroom smelled awful, and with the door open the air was almost impossible to breathe. The toilet flush only worked after pressing it several times. The safe was broken, so we had to carry our valuables every day. The hairdryer ran for about 20 seconds, then needed around 15 minutes before it could be used again. Breakfast was very low quality, the same every day for a week, and some things like the eggs seemed to be leftovers from the day before. This was one of the worst places I've stayed. If we'd had any other option at the time, we never would have stayed.

No air conditioning. Don't book in summer, especially if you're a light sleeper. I'd only suggest it if you're on a very tight budget and truly have no other hotel option.

Getting around was fairly easy, with a bus stop about 10 minutes away and the metro around a 20-minute walk. I slept perfectly after long sightseeing days thanks to the automatic blackout blinds and heavy curtains. Breakfast was fresh and tasty each morning. The hotel is charming and sits in a quiet, peaceful part of Rome. I highly recommend it for a comfortable, relaxing stay.
