Golden Pantheon Rooms

We were able to communicate easily with the host, who gave clear check-in instructions and was there the next morning to help with our needs. The room itself had been beautifully renovated, was comfortable and quiet, and we could block out the light when we wanted a dark room. The shower and plumbing were excellent. We stayed less than 48 hours. The neighborhood made it easy to find places to eat, shop, and buy groceries, and public transport was close by. We were a little unsure about walking around the area, but had no problems during our stay. A few practical details affected our experience. Expedia had told me extra taxes were due at check-in, but I hadn't noticed that the local tax had to be paid in cash, as they don't accept credit cards for it. We also thought the quoted transport prices were high: 60 Euro to Roma Ostiense Train station, compared with the 11.60 Euro our own taxi charged, and I believe airport pickup was quoted at 70 or 75 Euro, while the taxi fare was a flat 55 Euro. Golden Pantheon Rooms is in a flat on about the third level of an old building. There are roughly 12 steep, difficult steps and no elevator, which made carrying heavy luggage hard. In my opinion, it wouldn't suit someone with a disability or anyone unable to carry their bags up the stairs. We hadn't realized how difficult the climb would be, and I don't know whether help with luggage might have been available if we'd arranged it in advance. The room was smaller than we'd expected and had no microwave. There was a safe in the closet, but a strong moldy odor meant we kept the closet shut and didn't feel it or the vault was suitable to use. The building also smelled damp and moldy as soon as we entered. If not for the stairs and the smell in the closet, I'd have given it a perfect rating.

The owner made self check-in straightforward, sent useful directions, and even helped arrange a taxi back to the airport. The rooms are brand new and ours was large compared with other places we stayed in Italy. The location was great too, with a bus to any major attraction just a 3-4 minute walk away.

The outside doesn't make much of an impression, but don't let that put you off. We spent four days in the triple room and found it clean, modern, and comfortable, in a location that suited us perfectly. The Pantheon is a short walk one way and the Capitoline museum the other. Grano Trattoria is a great Italian restaurant around the corner, with a little grocery store half a block away. The host was easy to communicate with and very helpful. If you're visiting Rome in summer, the A/C worked well and kept the room comfortable. There is a flight of steep stairs, so it may not be a good fit if you have mobility issues.

We booked two rooms for my graduation and were the first guests at the Golden Pantheon Rooms. There weren't any reviews yet, but we trusted Mr. Fabrizio, and both rooms turned out beautiful and spotlessly clean. The mattress was especially comfortable, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The central location meant we didn't need to take public transport. Everything was perfect, though a full-length mirror in the room would be a useful addition. I'm writing this review months later.
