The price is great for this part of Rome, and Hip suites is right in the heart of Trastevere, my favorite area for its narrow streets and charm. The rooms are very clean and modern, though they don’t have much character. They almost feel like a Danish design student put them together.

We slept so well, even later than we probably should have, because the double-paned windows blocked out the noise. Step outside HIP Suites and there’s plenty going on, but once you’re in the room, it’s quiet. The place is just a block from Sta. Maria in Trastevere square, the main square in Trastevere, and above a smaller square with a really good enoteca below. My boyfriend and I stayed six nights and were so happy with it. The rooms are spacious and very clean. Since it’s not a huge hotel full of people, the service feels personal, and it almost feels like staying in an apartment or someone’s home. Tomaso was fantastic. He suggested hidden, authentic spots for dinner and drinks, and helped us figure out the public transportation. It isn’t difficult, but learning a new city takes a while. We’d definitely stay at HIP Suites again and highly recommend it.

The rooms were filthy, dark, dingy, small, and noisy, and the water pipes were leaking. The entrances to the apartments had overflowing rubbish bins, and the surrounding streets were covered in graffiti and urine. What a dump. The owner is an absolute moron. Don’t stay here. A hostel would be cheaper and better.
