Hostel Melting Pot Rome

The location is great, about a 20min walk to Colosseum, less than 5 min to a metro station, and not far from Termini station (train MS). Staff were friendly and the welcome felt warm. The rooms are clean and spacious, and lockers are provided. You can rent a padlock and towel if you want. There’s a small social area next to the check in desk, with a kitchen and garden. It’s more of a smoking area, but at least you can get some air. The beds don’t have shades, though there’s a light and electrical outlet beside them. Bathrooms are self-sufficient, so the hostel doesn’t provide shower gel or shampoo. One thing to know, guests over 40years old will be denied. Happy to come back.

I couldn’t sleep well because the bed was uncomfortable and made a lot of noise. The bathroom was missing basic supplies too, there wasn’t even soap.

The staff welcomed me warmly and showed me around, including the kitchen where you can make coffee for free. I only stayed one night, so I can’t say much about the atmosphere. The hostel was cute and clean, including the room, shower and common area. I booked a bed in a female only room. It had 3 beds rather than the 4 written, so it was comfortable and there was enough space for what you’d expect in a hostel. The location works well for visiting central Rome and most of the sightseeing spots. Locals say Termini Metro Station is sketchy day and night, so I avoided going out there. I used Mazoni Metro Station instead, a 5 min walk away, and that area felt quiet and safe.

For a couple of nights, it’s a pretty meh hostel. It’s a short walk from Termini station, but the route feels like a post apocalyptic town full of dodgy people, garbage and graffiti. I wouldn’t recommend walking to or from the station at night. The way toward Colisseum is much nicer and only a 20 min walk. The hostel itself was okay, with plugs by the beds and lockers, but the toilets were dirty at night. The receptionist wasn’t very friendly and didn’t explain where anything was or what services they offered. She just handed me a key and seemed annoyed when I asked about my room. It’s a pity that Rome has a need for cheap hostels, which are hard to find, and they take advantage of that. They’re all on the expensive side, and this place isn’t worth what you pay.
