Hotel Celio

Roberto at the front desk was really helpful, and this felt like such a peaceful place to stay. My room looked out onto a small courtyard through a huge window that I could leave open, so I heard birds singing each morning. The rooftop garden patio has city views and even a bathroom. There are two more rooftop venues higher up, reached by a winding staircase. After a day out, it was lovely to watch the sunset there with my Lemoncello before dinner. You can also see part of the Colosseum, and the city at night is great to take in with a nightcap before bed. I feel lucky I found this hidden gem.

The rooms are a little small, but they were clean, cozy, and well maintained. We felt safe and cared for while traveling with an infant, and the staff were just the best, always helpful and happy to see us. Being close to the Collesseum and the metro made getting around quick and easy, with no need for a taxi or tour. We’re so glad we booked here.

The staff are kind and helpful, and the ancient Roman decor throughout the hotel fits the city’s vibe. You can walk to the Colosseum, which is the main draw for Celio. For us, breakfast was a letdown because it’s very Italian, meaning pretty sparse. That’s just our preference, though, since we like a big, hearty breakfast.

My stay in Rome was a week, and this was the worst part of it. The hotel advertised a very nice standard single room, but what I got was tiny and uncomfortable. There wasn’t even a table or shelf for my carry-on luggage. When I complained, the owner told me to leave if I didn’t like the room and said I wouldn’t get a refund. I’ve never had hotel management treat me that way before. The staff were very unfriendly. I’ve attached photos comparing the room advertised with the one I was given for the week. Stay away.
