Hotel Filippo

The staff were wonderful and took great care of us. The location was really good, right beside Roma Termina station. We had a great stay.

We only needed somewhere to sleep for one night because it was close to the train station. By morning, though, we were ready to leave. The people in the area made it feel unsafe, and even after we asked for a non-smoking area, we could smell people smoking around us. The bed was old and squeaky, and the shower was cramped with weak water pressure. The refrigerator made a water noise and didn't work, so we unplugged it. Management said they'd bring us another one, but never did. The TV was out of order too, and the Wi-Fi had problems. Travelers, beware!

The location was the best part. We could walk to the Colosseum, there were lots of stores nearby, and being close to the terminal made getting around easy. Since it was my first time in Rome, the area felt sketchy when we arrived, but the location meant we didn't need to spend money on taxis. We were there for two nights before our cruise. The room itself was bare but nothing too bad, and the building was old. The lighting throughout was so dim I could barely put on makeup. The bigger problem came when we returned late one night and found the power was out. Police and other city workers were already dealing with it, and the outage lasted until 3 am. Because the door used an electric key card, we couldn't get into our room. I saw a keyhole and messaged the manager on WhatsApp asking to be let in, but he never picked up. My husband and I were left stranded on the corner in the middle of the night. The police were there and extremely nice, luckily. The manager still didn't respond the next day, or later that morning when I asked about checkout. I don't like that this operates more like an Airbnb than a hotel. If it's in your budget and convenience matters, go for it, but make sure to ask for a key in case the power goes out.

For the price, the stay was okay. Getting around was easy with the train and bus station nearby. The standard room was clean but really small, and the TV didn't work. The fridge in the room was small too, but noisy. The bathroom flush was broken and usually didn't work properly. It could take three hours to refill. There was free Wi-Fi with a decent, quiet speed. In the common area they had a vending machine with complimentary coffee, tea, milk and so on, though the food tray was always empty. There's also a tiny balcony in the common area.
