Hotel Ottavia Residence-Roma

The bed was comfortable and parking was free, but that was about it. We paid €13 less because we had to move from the house we originally booked, after a plumbing issue, while in town for a competition. For four days there was only one toilet roll, the pans and pots were poor quality, and the towels and pillows were stained. The adapted shower door wouldn't shut properly, so water spread across the floor. The converted garage basement was dim and damp, and although we'd expected a quiet place to study, children in neighboring homes were noisy for all three days. To keep the lights on, the system was outside, meaning all the keys had to be left out. Without locking the door, other guests could get in. I also saw other reviews mention air conditioning needing installation, but that wasn't mentioned to us. Given the price and all the hassle, I wouldn't recommend it.

The owners were always available and very kind, and my boyfriend and I had a lovely three-day stay. The house was welcoming, attractive, and practical, with everything for either a short or longer visit. Getting into the city center by public transport is easy. The cinema and shopping center, including a supermarket, are just a one-minute walk away. We'd definitely come back.

It's very clean, but I can't recommend it. The owner told us on arrival at what seemed like a nice property that there was no POS. In 2018, that felt like a serious inconvenience for customers. The apartment itself is a small semi-basement that hadn't been advertised that way, and, like most basement flats, it's dark and damp. My shirt felt damp when I put it back on after an hour and a half.

The owners were friendly and helpful, and the apartment has been nicely renovated. It's a former basement and garage beneath the owners' own apartment, so that should be clear when booking. The bathroom could have been cleaned more thoroughly, though the linens were good.
