Hotel Roma Tiburtina

The room was full of insects after we opened the window, and all the receptionist offered was a can of bug spray. It felt as though we had to deal with the problem ourselves. We’d already told the hotel on the first night that the air conditioning wasn’t working, even though AC was listed when we booked. They said it couldn’t be fixed until the next day and told us to try to manage until a technician could come. In summer, that was not acceptable. We said we couldn’t sleep with the heat and insects, and only then were we offered another room for the night. We had to leave our belongings behind and collect them the next day, which made everything stressful and inconvenient. This was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had, and a very disappointing experience. I hope the feedback is taken seriously and that the hotel improves how it handles problems like this.

For a solo trip, it was a good experience. The neighborhood was quiet, and the staff were helpful. I liked the hotel and thought it was a budget place. The room could have been cleaner. Breakfast was basic and may not be enough if you’re really hungry, though my freshly baked croissant tasted good. It’s a bit far out, and if you miss the metro you may have to take the nMB night bus.

The walls were our biggest problem. We could hear sounds from the hall and neighboring rooms very clearly, including a guest next door coughing late into every night we were there. The hotel is near the Metro, but it’s at the end of the Metro B line, so getting into or out of the city takes about 30 minutes each way. Breakfast was the weakest of the four hotels we stayed at on vacation. It wasn’t completely bare-bones, but it wasn’t a good deal either. The juice machine had pineapple and orange buttons, yet only dispensed pineapple whatever you pressed. They also had a room sign saying sheets would be changed every other day to save water. We stayed four nights and ours weren’t changed at all. For what it cost, we expected a better standard.

The only real advantage here is that Rebibbia Metro station is nearby, though the station itself is quite run down. The surrounding area felt shabby by European standards, and we were approached by people who looked high. If feeling safe is important to you, I’d skip this hotel. Our room was unpleasantly tiny and looked onto the parking lot, hardly a promising start to a holiday. Breakfast was just passable, mostly pastries and other sweet, high-calorie baked goods. For a hotel welcoming international visitors, I’d expect at least one international dish. I won’t be coming back.
